And not only will the new AMG wagon haul more cargo than the sedan, but it should haul it faster; our past 0-60 mph tests of previous-generation AMG E-classes reveal that the wagon is usually 0.1 to 0.2 seconds faster than the sedan. How? Because the wagon has just enough additional weight in the rear to help the tires grip better and transfer all that power to the ground. The ordering guide estimates a 4.1 second 0-60 time for the sedan and 4.3 for the wagon, but OEM test results tend to be on the conservative side.
The ordering guide also states that the E550 will only be available in a 4Matic (four-wheel drive) variant for both the sedan and wagon. We’re not sure why, but we expect to get an explanation closer to its launch this coming fall 2011 (same goes for the E63 wagon).
